2nd NYS LYMPHEDEMA EDUCATION & AWARENESS DAY
OCTOBER 17, 2003
Celebration of the second New York State Lymphedema Education and Awareness Day was held at St. John's Riverside Hospital, Yonkers, NY on October 17, 2003. Assemblyman Michael J. Spano presented to Annie Toglia, MES, ACSM, CSCS (Staying Abreast.com) and Bonnie Lasinski, MA, PT, CLT-LANA (Lymphedema Therapy, L.I., NY) the resolution honoring this day that was accepted by Governor George Pataki and which was passed unanimously through the NY State Assembly and Senate during the 2003 session. Annie Toglia and Bonnie Lasinski have written, with the NY State Assembly, new legislation for improved insurance coverage for lymphedema patients, which has been pre-filed by Assemblyman Spano to be introduced during the 2004 session. Also in attendance were Donna Nevin, MS, PT, a lymphedema activist and private lymphedema therapist in White Plains, NY, Wendy Chaite, President of the Lymphedema Research Foundation in Long Island, NY, and Shari Lando, a lymphedema activist and mother of Jackie Lando, a young primary lymphedema patient of Bonnie Lasinski.
Annie Toglia appeared with Assemblyman Spano on News 12 Westchester on Tuesday, October 28 to discuss lymphedema awareness and to announce their plans for legislative changes in the upcoming year. |
